Our No 1 Charity
We recommend supporting Operation Eyesight Universal

Here at International Sports Radio we have our eyes on the world. There are a lot of good things happening out there, but there are a lot of needs too. If you want to join us in making a difference, we recommend a Canada-based organization that is doing something very cool.
Operation Eyesight Universal stands out because of the quality of its work in response to an urgent problem. Consider this: Every five seconds, one person in the world goes blind. A child goes blind every minute. Yet for almost three out of four of these people, blindness was completely unnecessary.
Operation Eyesight is an international development organization dedicated to eliminating avoidable blindness. Since 1963 it has helped more than 35 million people. Its work is focused on India and the African countries of Ghana , Kenya , Rwanda and Zambia – places where blindness can be deadly, especially to those who are very young, old or poor.
Through Operation Eyesight, people are helped regardless of means, gender, caste or creed. They work in partnership with local medical professionals and community development teams, building essential resources that give all people, including the poorest, access to the help they need. A focus on high-quality, comprehensive eye care ensures sustainable service for entire communities, with long-lasting results. Thanks to private donations and public support, Operation Eyesight is able to assist people threatened by blindness and low vision.
Supporting Operation Eyesight causes amazing things to happen:
• eye clinics and hospitals are upgraded to provide high-quality eye care for entire communities
- people who cannot afford to pay for critical eye surgery get the treatment they urgently need
- water wells in parched lands break the cycle of eye disease
- local vision technicians are trained to work among their own people to identify eye problems
- people learn skills that help them earn an income and become less vulnerable to blindness and low vision
Being poor is bad enough, but being blind and poor is a terrible thing. The good news is that most of the world’s blindness is treatable or completely preventable. So if you want to make a difference in Africa or India , take a close look at Operation Eyesight.
